Learn to pile burn safely with Dario Davidson, Wildfire-Ready Coalition lead forester volunteer, and Haley Coopergard from NCRCD

In this free, hands-on workshop, learn how to build and burn a simple burn pile safely. Burning is a great way to reduce fuels, especially dead or old branches and small logs—particularly if you have a lot of ladder fuels to remove and don’t have easy access to green waste removal.

In this hands-on workshop, you will learn about:

  • The best way to build and burn a pile so it burns fast and clean, with less smoke
  • How to make it easier on yourself with “feeder piles”
  • When permits are required, what kinds are needed, and the consequences of burning without one
  • How to burn safely and ensure your pile does not escape

Led by Dario Davidson, Wildfire-Ready Coalition lead forester volunteer, and Haley Coopergard from the Nevada County Resource Conservation District.

Location: Round Mountain FWC, Nevada City, CA

What to bring: Please be prepared with water, lunch/ snacks, your favorite tool (rake, McLeod, loppers), Work gloves, long pants, long-sleeved shirt, sturdy shoes, and rain gear if it might rain lightly. We will have tools to borrow as well.
