Working Lands, Volume III - The History of Forestry and Fire in Nevada County
Nevada County’s Native peoples long cared for the landscape, using traditional practices that helped protect the region from destructive wildfire. As new communities expanded into the mountains in the 1800s, forest management began to shift, and those approaches changed again in the 1900s. Both transitions, though well‑intended, contributed to dense overgrowth and increasingly severe fires fueled by overcrowded forests. This documentary examines how our forests in Nevada County and across California have evolved, the challenges we face today, and the essential work required to rebuild healthy, resilient ecosystems—including the renewed use of Prescribed Fire.
Film premiere date June 30th, 2026. This event is FREE and tickets are available here RESERVE TICKETS
