Come burn with us!

Join us for a 6-hour workshop discussing the steps to take in order to successfully conduct a Prescribed Burn. Workshop will be led by NCRCD Prescribed Fire Education Manager Haley Coopergard and Jo Ann Fites-Kaufman, certified California Burn Boss, retired US Forest Service wildland and prescribed fire scientist and practitioner.

  • Cost: Free
  • Description: Visit a prepped burn unit or an actual prescribed burn in progress to learn what do before, during, and after a burn. Before: setting up water, getting the help you need, gathering permits, setting up logistics for volunteers and notifying neighbors. During: giving a briefing, test burn, the different roles people play on a prescribed burn, smoke management, and the firing process. We will also discuss the steps taken after a prescribed burn is complete including mop-up, monitoring, evaluation, and maintenance.

Please Bring:

  • Water, snacks
  • Your favorite tool (rake, McLeod, loppers). We will have tools to borrow too.
  • Work gloves. Long pants, long-sleeved shirt, sturdy shoes, and rain gear if it might rain lightly
  • Whatever you may need for a 6 hour class
