Wildflower Ridge Preserve Prescribed Burn
Help Restore the Land Through Fire
Join Bear Yuba Land Trust and First Rain Land Stewardship Services for a unique hands-on prescribed burn event to help restore an oak woodland at one of our most beautiful preserves. This project is focused on reducing wildfire risk, improving land management, and increasing community protection. If you have previous burn experience or are interested in learning about prescribed fire, we’d love to have you on the Burn Day team!
Please note, this burn is pending a favorable weather window and a successful test fire.
We’re looking for 20 volunteers to assist during the burn! We'll begin our day with a safety talk, then discuss expectations for the burn and roles and responsibilities for everyone, then do some final prep work before we ignite. We anticipate first ignitions to begin around 1:00 PM. Ignitions will be finished by 3pm, and mop up could take us until 5pm. Keep in mind that you can leave early if needed. We need your help, even if you can only spend a few hours volunteering.
What You’ll Do:
- Learn about fire’s role in healthy ecosystems
- Help maintain fire lines and watch for spot fires (no experience needed)
- Support on-the-ground restoration crews
- Help mop up the fire
What to Bring:
- Long sleeves, pants, gloves, boots (natural fibers preferred)
- Hand Tools (steel rake, McLeod, shovel, hoe)
- Water, lunch/snacks, and a spirit of stewardship
Additional tools, food, and drinks will be provided
