Founded in 1944, the Nevada County Resource Conservation District (NCRCD) is a state mandated 'Special District' that is not a regulatory group nor a city or county entity. The NCRCD receives a small percentage of revenue from property taxes from Nevada County residents.
The NCRCD began over 67 years ago. Since that time the 'District' along with USDA partners Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), has served thousands of residents and landowners with technical assistance ranging from maintaining ponds, brush reduction and rangeland re-planting, forest stand improvement, soil surveys, building bird nesting boxes, native plant re-vegetation, utilization of goats for brush control and much more.
Mission
Our mission is to promote responsible resource management within our jurisdiction through education, leadership, technical and financial assistance, and project facilitation.
Vision
Our vision is to educate and assist landowners and land managers to establish a balance between a high quality rural environment, a biologically diverse landscape, and a healthy economy for the community.
The NCRCD/NRCS staff provides free assistance to many private landowners upon request. Annually, we assist over 1,000 landowners with natural resource issues including erosion control, pond management, invasive weed control, fuels management, wildlife improvement, pasture, and rangeland and forestry health improvement.
Besides getting the word out about the assistance we offer, our aim is to educate landowners that there is a 'balance' to try and achieve in conservation of their land.
